I love a good bliss ball. I grew up munching on them as snacks with my mum's version featuring carob and honey.

One thing I've noticed is that these days, bliss balls are nut-heavy and often all taste the same – but it doesn't have to be that way when so many fabulous flavours are available. Not everything needs to be peanut butter and chocolate chip.

So, here's my answer to the current trend for homogenised bliss balls: start with a base that tastes delicious. From there, add flavours that can skew off into many different directions and get creative with what you add in. We start with apple and oat and end with raspberry lamington.

The starting point, our wonderful apple and oat base, has no nuts and then branches off into a delicious raspberry and chocolate lamington flavoured bliss ball variation.

Equally, it could have been a mango and lime version with the addition of some lime zest and dried mango pieces or mango powder. Or what about some ginger and nutmeg with a toasted almond coating for a gingerbread result?

The possibilities are endless… but here's two of my favourites to get you started for this Bliss Ball edition of 9Honey's Every Day Kitchen cook-along , because these make great lunchbox fillers and healthy snacks.
