Getting the scoop on Nashville’s first homemade Indian ice cream shop.
Sarabha’s Creamery serves up homemade Indian-style ice creams from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

You can never go wrong with a scoop of your favorite ice cream flavor in a sugary waffle cone. And with such a variety of options around campus, finding the best ice cream shop is a tasty adventure.
Sarabha’s Creamery , located on 21st Avenue above Chipotle, describes itself as Nashville’s first homemade Indian creamery. When I walked past multiple signs and chalkboards saying “Homemade ice cream made with love,” I knew I had to give this place a try. As much as I enjoy larger chains like Ben & Jerry’s or Comfy Cow, knowing someone directly made this ice cream with fresh ingredients and care makes it taste better. After my experience at Sarabha’s, I can easily say they delivered on their promise.
Upon entering the shop, I was instantly transported from the cold and busy Nashville streets to a spacious yet cozy room filled with the sweet aroma of ice cream and pastries. Comfortable-looking patterned chairs and couches surrounded wooden tables. Vinyl records, framed pictures and neon signs hung on the green walls. There were plenty of potted plants and large windows. Besides the occasional laughs from people mingling at the couches, the shop was largely calming. I could easily see myself bringing a friend or two to study here in the future.
Above the counter was a chalkboard with a variety of pastries, drinks, milkshakes and ice cream flavors. There were many interesting flavors to choose from, including kesar pista, butterscotch, chai spice, coconut and mango. I settled on a paneer puff pastry and a bowl of butterscotch and creamy-cream flavored ice cream, which was neatly prepared by a friendly staff member. He even included a piece of waffle cone as a centerpiece to my ice cream. I decided to take a seat by one of the large windows and observe the street below while I ate.
The ice cream tasted delicious and was probably some of the best I’ve had in a long time. The butterscotch was soft and creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. I couldn’t stop myself from taking rushed spoonfuls. The paneer puff pastry, a pastry filled with traditional Indian cottage cheese, was the perfect warm, savory balance to the cold, sweet dessert. After biting through the flaky crust, I was met with the soft paneer filling and a hint of spice. The tamarind sauce I was given gives the dish an extra kick—a slightly spicy and tangy flavoring that lingered on my tongue. I finished both treats in no time, feeling satisfied with my choices.
My experience at Sarabha’s Creamery was fantastic. Everything from the environment to the presentation to the flavor went above and beyond. The location was relaxing and comforting too, something you usually don’t get in a lot of ice cream shops. If you’re looking for a new specialty ice cream shop or even just a quick treat while studying with friends, this is definitely the place to visit. I know for sure I’ll be returning for another sweet end to my day.
