Lilly Pad permit would limit live music volume, hours at Varina venue – Richmond BizSense

A provisional-use permit proposed for the restaurant and the larger Kingsland Marina would limit live music to certain hours and decibel levels, among other conditions that county staff is recommending after determining that the expanded restaurant had outgrown the parameters of a previous permit.

Three Notch’d Brewing to spill into adjacent space in Scott’s Addition – Richmond BizSense

Three Notch’d Brewing Co. is planning to expand its space at 2930 W. Broad St. to include the addition of a restaurant, according to documents filed with the city. The extra room came available after two adjacent spaces were recently left vacant by Red Goat Pizza and Richmond Wine Station.

How these Richmond craft breweries are supporting Ukraine through beer – RTD

After Russia invaded Ukraine, a Lviv craft brewery with the name of Pravda stopped making beer and started brewing Molotov cocktails.

Soon after, the brewer called on fellow brewers around the world to show solidarity with Ukraine by brewing one of Pravda’s beers for charity. Pravda, which is the Russian word for “truth,” made that possible by posting its recipes online.

Several Richmond craft breweries have joined the “Brew for Ukraine” initiative, which aims to raise money for humanitarian relief through sales of the beer and to call attention to the plight of Ukrainians.

How Breweries of All Sizes Are Getting Creative With Sustainable Initiatives – VinePair

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery became the first brewery in Virginia completely powered by renewable energy and Cheers Virginia has this quote.

Patrick Murtaugh, co-founder and brewmaster at Hardywood, feels that doing so is our collective responsibility — plus there’s the growing financial incentive. “Protecting the environment is not only important to us, but to our customers as well,” he says. “Customers not only appreciate our efforts, they expect them.”

Executive director of the North American Craft Maltsters Guild Jesse Bussard (who goes by she/they pronouns), says climate change remains one of the most concerning threats that the trade faces in modern times. “It’s affecting the capacity for us to grow barley,” she says, pointing to Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado as the top states for barley production which, in 2021, collectively faced the worst crop output in recent history. Bussard believes that scientific trials, like Heineken’s attempt to reduce agriculture-related emissions by 33 percent by 2030, are promising, but not happening fast enough.

Danville set to become first Virginia city with designated outdoor drinking area – Radio IQ

Earlier this month Danville City Council voted to allow outdoor consumption of alcohol in their downtown area, called the River District.

Councilor Lee Vogler says it’s something he’s heard folks ask for for years, especially after local festivals.

“And so any time we’ve had these outdoor events in the downtown where you could eat and drink and socialize they’ve been very popular and folks said, ‘You know, I wish we could do this all the time,'” Vogler explains. “And so now, they will.”

Scott’s Addition is screaming for something similar. I’m not sure if it would be a great idea or not.
